I am informed by the Garda authorities that detailed statistics in relation to the number of cyclists killed and injured are provided by the National Roads Authority, St. Martin's House, Waterloo Road, Dublin 4.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that detailed statistics in relation to the number of death and injuries on Irish roads are provided by the National Roads Authority, St Martins House, Waterloo Road, Dublin 4.

Details in relation to all road accidents reported to the Garda authorities are supplied by the Garda to the National Roads Authority, and a detailed report on road accidents entitled Road Accident Facts is prepared and published by that authority. The most recent report, which is in respect of 1997, was published in November 1998.
In regard to deaths following road traffic accidents, I am informed by the Garda authorities that provisional Garda figures show that 458 persons were killed in 1998 and 327 to date in 1999 – 6 October 1999.
In relation to injuries caused by road accidents in 1998 I understand that the National Roads Authority are due to publish their 1998 Road Accident Facts, 1998 in the near future which will contain details of the numbers injured. However, I further understand that the provisional figure for the numbers injured in 1998 is 12,700. The 1999 figure for the numbers injured is not yet available from the National Roads Authority.
