Vol. 509 No. 1

Written Answers. - Northern Ireland Issues.

John Bruton

Question:

70 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on security and republican source reports that the Provisional IRA was responsible for the murder of Mr. Charles Bennett; his views on whether this murder constituted a breach of the Provisional IRA ceasefire; and, if so, the action, if any, he will take in this regard. [17307/99]

The Deputy will appreciate that it has never been the practice of Justice Ministers to disclose publicly the contents of security briefings which they receive. As to the implications of the reprehensible murder of Mr. Bennett for the Provisional IRA ceasefire, I refer the Deputy to the answers given by the Taoiseach on 29 September to Questions Nos. 1 and 6.
