Vol. 509 No. 1

Written Answers. - Premises for Organisation.

Michael Ferris

Question:

78 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the fact that an organisation (details supplied) has been given notice to vacate its premises due to shortage of funding; the action, if any, he will take to assist this organisation to remain in its current premises or to acquire alternative accommodation in order that its important work will not be disrupted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19734/99]

I have been advised of the situation and I know of the important work undertaken by the organisation referred to by the Deputy.

I am also aware that my colleague, Deputy Mary Wallace, Minister of State at my Department, who chairs the national steering committee on violence against women has met the organisation concerned and has discussed a number of options with it concerning its plight.

I also know that my colleague, Deputy Brian Cowen, Minister for Health and Children, who, through the relevant health boards, provides funding for such organisations, is aware of the situation and has raised the matter with the Eastern Health Board which is in discussion with the organisation concerned.
