Vol. 509 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

84 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will allocate extra Garda patrol cars to Athy, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18695/99]

The detailed allocation of Garda resources to an individual area is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that there are 44 official vehicles allocated to the Carlow-Kildare division and that these resources are utilised at the discretion of the divisional officer depending on the operational requirements in the division.

I am also informed that there is one uniform patrol car allocated to Athy station. In addition, patrol vehicles from the Carlow district and traffic corps vehicles from Naas regularly patrol the Athy subdistrict. The Garda authorities have further informed me that they are satisfied that the allocation of transport to the Carlow district adequately meets the policing needs of the district.
