Vol. 509 No. 1

Written Answers. - Registration of Title.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

86 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of dealings outstanding in the Land Registry; the reason for the delay in the completion of registration of certain transactions; and if additional staff and resources will be made available to the Land Registry in view of the fact that it is self-financing and produces a surplus. [19563/99]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 756 of 29 September 1999.

The number of dealings outstanding in the Land Registry at the end of August 1999 stood at 66,450. As I have already stated the current increase in the level of arrears in the Land Registry is, to a large extent, the result of an unprecedented level of business being transacted in the property market in recent years. My Department is keenly aware of the situation and is currently in discussion with the Department of Finance with a view to the allocation of additional staff to the registry.
