Vol. 509 No. 1

Written Answers. - Central Fisheries Board.

Tony Gregory

Question:

130 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the funding, if any, available from his Department to the Central Fisheries Board, Mobhi Boreen, Dublin 9, in view of the fact that it appears to require additional funding to provide a silencer on its refrigeration plant and to give a face lift to the premises which is causing concern to local residents. [19777/99]

The Central Fisheries Board has its headquarters and laboratories at Mobhi Boreen in Glasnevin and they are responsible for both the upkeep of their premises and for ensuring that any noise emissions as a result of activities on their premises are well within accepted levels. From inquiries made with the central board I understand that following complaints from local residents the board engaged a specialist company to assess the extent of environmental noise at its premises in Mobhi Boreen. I also understand that while the results of the noise assessment tests indicated noise levels as being of marginal significance the central board nevertheless proposes to engage sound suppression experts to undertake further amelioration measures.

In regard to the appearance of the building my Department is currently examining proposals put forward by the Central Fisheries Board to undertake development and improvement works on the site.
