Vol. 509 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

144 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 952 of 29 September 1999, the reason a classroom assistant or resource teacher has not been allocated to the school and pupil concerned; if this matter will be addressed as a matter of urgency; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20199/99]

My Department has sanctioned a full-time special needs assistant post to the school in question to cater for the special needs of the pupil to whom she refers. My Department is currently awaiting a report from the inspectorate on what, if any, additional resource teacher support is required by the school. I have asked that this report be completed as speedily as possible. Once this report is received, my Department will be in contact with the school on the matter.
