Vol. 509 No. 3

Written Answers. - Junior Certificate Schools Programme.

Enda Kenny

Question:

52 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science the steps, if any, he will take to extend the availability of the junior certificate schools programme. [20004/99]

The junior certificate school programme was introduced in 1996 as an intervention within the junior certificate to provide for a specific cohort of pupils, in approximately 80 schools, whose needs were not being met by existing provision. It was introduced on a phased basis.

A total of 85 schools-centres participated on the programme in the year 1998-99 and my Department will be considering options for the further expansion of the programme.
