Vol. 509 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

96 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will make sufficient funds available for the provision of wheelchair access to the old part of St. Joseph's Convent of Mercy, Navan, County Meath; if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties this problem is causing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19812/99]

My Department is currently considering an application from this school for various remedial works. The question of wheelchair access was not raised by the school authorities. However, it will now be considered in the context of any remedial works being undertaken. The general position is that established schools which apply for grant-aid towards the provision of access and other facilities for the physically disabled are grant-aided by my Department as the need arises.
