Question:

320 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has satisfied himself at the Garda staffing levels in Killarney, County Kerry; the plans, if any, he has to increase staffing levels over the next year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20634/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 319 and 320 together.

The detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources to an individual area is a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that the current personnel strength of Killarney Garda station, as of 18 October 1999, is 41 members, all ranks. I am also informed that two members were allocated to Killarney on 24 September 1999, increasing the personnel strength to its current level. The announcement by the press and information section of my Department on 7 October 1999 referred to these two members.

The Garda authorities have further informed me that they are satisfied that the current policing arrangements in place in Killarney are adequate to meet the policing requirements of the area. The situation will, however, be monitored and kept under review with a view to ensuring that a satisfactory policing service is maintained.
