Vol. 509 No. 4

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

336 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposals, if any, he has to appoint educational psychologists for primary schools in County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20318/99]

The National Educational Psychological Service, agency was formally established on 1 September 1999. Interviews for the appointment of a substantial number of additional psychologists to the new agency are taking place this month and it is hoped that those appointed will take up their positions in the near future.

The management of the national educational psychological service agency is currently drawing up a development plan for the phased expansion of the service. The particular needs of, and the availability of psychological services in, all counties, including Waterford, are being considered in the formulation of this plan.
