Vol. 509 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

124 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Defence if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 256 of 29 September 1999, he is of the view that a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan actually carried out most of his work after the main contract left the site. [20323/99]

I have made inquiries in this matter. The position is that no contract, neither express nor implied, was made between my Department and the person referred to for the carrying out of building work at Castleblayney Military Post.

My Department's sole contract in relation to the building project at the post was with the main contractor and all matters in relation thereto were negotiated between those parties within the scope of that contract. The person referred to was at all times a sub-contractor to whom my Department has no contractual liability and all work undertaken by him was within the contract and on the basis of that relationship.
