Vol. 509 No. 5

Written Answers. - Aquaculture Licences.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

52 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he has satisfied himself with arrangements for the issuing of fish farm licences having regard to the concerns expressed by An Taisce; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20698/99]

I am satisfied that the statutory arrangements requiring publication of a notice in a newspaper circulating in the vicinity of the area in question of all aquaculture licence applications, and of all ministerial decisions to grant or refuse aquaculture licences, meet the concerns expressed by An Taisce, namely, that interested parties and the public generally should be aware of such applications and decisions so as to be able to avail of the statutory right to comment on or object to applications or appeal against decisions. An Taisce is supplied directly with a copy of all such applications and decisions, in its own right, under those arrangements.
