Vol. 510 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

399 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will approve the issue of tenders and start of construction of the proposed sports hall at Pobal Scoil Neasáin, Baldoyle, in view of the long wait by the Baldoyle and mid-Sutton area for this facility. [22397/99]

My Department has received an application for a physical education hall at Pobal Scoil Neasáin, Baldoyle. This project is currently at stage 2 – outline sketch scheme – of architectural planning.

Arising from my recent decision to substantially increase the size of PE halls within post primary schools, stage 2 is currently being amended to reflect the appropriate increased size.

The question of inviting tenders and proceeding to construction will be considered when architectural planning has been completed.

I agree with the Deputy that this project has waited a long time and I am sure he will appreciate that the major increase in funding for school capital projects has made it possible.
