Vol. 510 No. 6

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

316 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the requests, if any, he has received from Kildare County Council for the provision of extra funding for group water schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23658/99]

In response to a request from Kildare County Council I recently approved an additional allocation of £500,000 in European Regional Development Fund co-financing, an increase from £340,000 to £840,000, under the Operational Programme for Water Services 1994-99, to facilitate the development of certain large scale group water schemes in the county. The council's normal block grant for group water and sewerage scheme development under the devolved rural water programme amounted to £485,000 in 1999. All available capital funding for 1999 has now been committed.
