Vol. 511 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tobacco and Health Policy.

Question:

108 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of fines awarded under the Tobacco (Health Promotion and Protection) Regulations; if he will review the operation of this legislation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23803/99]

Four prosecutions involving fines were successfully brought for sale of tobacco products to underage persons.

Shortly after taking office I established a group to carry out a fundamental review of tobacco and health policy. The group is looking at all aspects of tobacco and health, including controls on sales of tobacco products. When the group reports to me with its recommendations, I will bring forward proposals.
