Vol. 511 No. 1

Written Answers. - Toxicology Centre.

Bernard Allen

Question:

127 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has to set up a national toxicology centre to support the functions of the Poisons Board as recommended in the national environmental health action plan. [23824/99]

The proposal for a national environmental health action plan which I published recently contains a recommendation for the establishment of a national toxicology centre. A grant in aid was made to the Irish Toxicology Society to establish a project team to prepare a detailed proposal for such a centre.

The proposed national plan was circulated to Government Departments and agencies with an involvement in environmental health and to all health boards and local authorities. After comments have been received and reviewed I will submit a formal plan to Government next year.
