Vol. 511 No. 2

Written Answers. - Public Service Estimates.

Ulick Burke

Question:

44 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the value of the elements which comprise the £7.73 million for cultural institutions in subhead C.1 in the 2000 Estimates; and the way this compares with the 1999 Estimates. [23717/99]

The various elements making up subhead C.1. of my Department's Vote consist of amounts to pay the general expenses of the National Museum of Ireland, the National Library of Ireland, the National Archives, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Chester Beatty Library, the National Archives Advisory Council and the National Concert Hall and a separate capital sum for to the Irish Museum of Modern Art.

It is envisaged that the elements which make up subhead C.1 in the year 2000 will be broadly similar to those for 1999. The amounts to be assigned to each body have yet to be determined and will be published in due course in the Revised Estimates for public services in the New Year. The year 2000 provision represents an increase of approximately 14.67% over the 1999 provision which will enable me to continue to improve the resources available to these important cultural institutions.
