Vol. 511 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael Ring

Question:

260 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will announce funding for the water extension from Lough Mask to Westport. [24446/99]

A revised brief for this proposal was submitted recently by Mayo County Council and is under consideration in my Department.

As the proposal is not included in the 1999 Water Services Investment Programme it comes within the terms of my Department's circular letter L9/98 of 22 October 1998, which asked each local authority to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in its area and to prepare a prioritised list of projects based on the assessment. The priority lists will be taken into consideration by the Department in framing future water and sewerage services investment programmes under the recently published National Development Plan 2000-2006. The extension of the Lough Mask regional water supply scheme to Westport is fifth in Mayo County Council's priority list of water supply schemes.
