Vol. 511 No. 6

Written Answers. - Computer Programmes.

David Stanton

Question:

243 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Finance the status of contingency plans in relation to the Y2K computer problems in the event of a systems failure in his Department and all agencies under his aegis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25442/99]

Although my Department's programme of Year 2000 remedial work is now complete, a contin gency plan has been drawn up which covers contingency and fallback arrangements for the systems and services which underpin the Department's business critical functions. The plan, which was independently audited, ensures continuity of service with minimum disruption, in the event of unforeseen Year 2000 related problems arising over the end of year changeover period. It also covers pre end of year precautions and staffing cover over the end of year itself. With regard to the agencies and state sponsored bodies under my remit, all of these have contingency plans in place.
