Vol. 511 No. 6

Written Answers. - Computer Programmes.

David Stanton

Question:

370 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the status of contingency plans in relation to the Y2K computer problems in the event of a systems failure in his Department and all agencies under his aegis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25448/99]

My Department has formulated contingency and staff cover plans for the millennium changeover period, as required by Government, and has provided the interdepartmental monitoring committee for the year 2000 with an independently reviewed report on these plans.

Bord Fáilte, CERT and ADM Ltd. are participants on my Department's year 2000 monitoring committee, which was formed late last year to monitor and discuss achievement of year 2000 compliance and related issues. These agencies have formulated their own contingency and staff cover plans. The Irish Sports Council, which was formally established in July of this year, has yet to develop a computerised network within its office. It is, however, taking care to ensure that any IT or office equipment being procured is fully compliant and will be taking all measures available to ensure that its business critical functions can be maintained in the event of any possible Y2K failure.
