Vol. 512 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

158 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to decentralise the Government service to any of the major towns in County Monaghan in view of the fact the county has not benefited from any decentralisation in the past; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25678/99]

As indicated in the reviewed An Action Programme for the Millennium, the Government remains committed to a policy of balanced regional development and has set as a key priority the channelling of public sector jobs into provincial areas. However, no decisions have been taken with regard to the specific locations to which Departments-offices may be decentralised. I want to assure the Deputy that I note the case made for the inclusion of County Monaghan in any future programme.
