Written Answers. - Tourism Promotion.

Ivan Yates

Question:

208 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the proposals, if any, he has to obtain additional resources to ensure that a project (details supplied) in Courtown, County Wexford, as a flagship tourism project can obtain additional funding sought originally from Bord Fáilte; the other funds, if any, at his disposal or the Government's disposal for which grant aid can and will be sought; and if he will make a full statement in relation to his Department's appraisal of the project. [25614/99]

With regard to funding sought from Bord Fáilte, the Deputy will be aware that decisions on grant applications under the Operational Programme for Tourism, 1994-99, are a matter for an independent management board. However, I understand that the board has approved, in principle, a grant of £600,000 in respect of the overseas tourism element of the Waterworld project in Courtown, County Wexford.

Meanwhile, grant aid of £650,000 has also been allocated from the swimming pool programme, which is administered by my Department, to Wexford County Council on behalf of Gorey Courtown Forest Park Limited, towards the proposed swimming pool elements of the Waterworld complex in Courtown, County Wexford.
