Vol. 512 No. 3

Written Answers - Milk Quota.

Dan Neville

Question:

182 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a milk quota will be allocated to members of the milk quota action group who were affected when milk quotas were introduced and who had decided to complete a farm development plan on the basis of being able to produce higher quantities of milk than were subsequently allocated to them by quota and who successfully took a court case against his Department. [26153/99]

Legal proceedings, which were initiated by a limited number of plaintiffs in 1990, are still before the High Court following judgments given in their favour in the Supreme Court in 1997. These proceedings relate to the assessment of damages in respect of seven plaintiffs involved in the Duff case and some 100 other plaintiffs involved in associated cases. Four of the seven cases have been heard, and quota has been allocated in two cases, where that was appropriate.
