Vol. 512 No. 3

Written Answers - Decentralisation Programme.

Ulick Burke

Question:

199 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to purchase and refurbish the old mill buildings at Ahascragh, Ballinasloe, County Galway, with a view to re-locating a section of a Government Department in the next programme of decentralisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26127/99]

As no decisions have yet been taken about which sections of Government Departments/offices will be decentralised nor to which provincial centres they will be relocated, I have no plans to purchase and refurbish the Old Mill buildings at Ahascragh, Ballinasloe, County Galway. In any event I must emphasise that a decision to purchase any particular site or premises can only be taken after the appropriate procurement procedures have been strictly followed and accordingly I could not commit myself to the purchase of any specific premises or site at this stage.
