Question:

233 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the waiting list for physiotherapy for children in the Mayo area of the Western Health Board; and the plans, if any, he has to increase the number of physiotherapists employed to reduce this waiting list. [26115/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 232 and 233 together.

At present there is one physiotherapist working whole time with children and one sessional physiotherapist working with adults in Mayo and there are 47 children currently waiting for physiotherapy in Mayo.

The provision of physiotherapy services is a matter for the health board and, in this case, the Western Health Board proposes to increase the physiotherapy services in the year 2000 to 1.5 physiotherapists working whole time with children and one whole time physiotherapist plus one sessional physiotherapist to cater for adults in Mayo.
