253 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the resources, if any, which will be made available to Fingal County Council in relation to the designation of Baldoyle Bay as a special conservation area; and the way in which he will ensure that the fragile environment of this area is conserved in relation to sewage discharges off the nose of Howth and other pollution. In July 1999 Baldoyle Bay was designated by Dúchas as a special area of conservation under the habitat's directive. The Dublin Bay project, which is being funded under my Department's water and sewerage services investment programme, will involve the diversion of sewage flows from Howth, Sutton, Baldoyle and Portmarnock to the newly constructed Ringsend treatment plant via the pumping station in Sutton and will eliminate all discharges of sewage from the nose of Howth. There are no proposals from Fingal County Council for funding for further capital works in the Baldoyle area.
