Vol. 512 No. 3

Written Answers - Salary Payment System.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

284 Ms Coughlan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the gardaí will be given the option of payment by way of electronic funds transmission whereby salaries will be paid direct to a bank account rather than by payable order; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26082/99]

The introduction of an electronic salary payment system for gardaí, known as Paypath, formed part of the official side's proposals which were considered by the adjudication board at its hearings on Garda pay. The board recommended that discussions should take place between the Garda Representative Association and the official side in regard to the introduction and implementation of these altered pay arrangements.

As the association has recommended acceptance of the board's recommendations to its members it is expected that those discussions will be held soon.
