Vol. 512 No. 3

Written Answers - School Facilities.

Pat Carey

Question:

295 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will make a special grant available to enable Mater Christi secondary school, Cappagh Road, Finglas, Dublin 11, to restock its library in view of the fact the library was among the facilities burnt in a recent fire; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25809/99]

My Department does not have provision to pay special grants to schools for the purpose identified by the Deputy. However, it is open to schools to submit an application for funding to my Department in relation to significant losses arising from damage caused to school buildings and other school property which are not covered by the school's own insurance arrangements. Such applications will be examined on its merits and in light of available resources.
