Vol. 512 No. 3

Estimates for the Public Services, 1999: Referral to Select Committees.

I move:

That, subject to leave being given to introduce the following Supplementary Estimates for the service of the year ending 31st December, 1999, the Supplementary Estimates be referred to the following select committees pursuant to Standing Order 145(3) and paragraph 1(a)(ii) of the committees' orders of reference:

Vote 20 – Garda Síochána – Select Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights;

Vote 25 – Department of the Environment and Local Government – Select Committee on Environment and Local Government;

Vote 30 – Department of the Marine and Natural Resources – Select Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine;

Vote 33 – Department of Health and Children – Select Committee on Health and Children;

Vote 34 – Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment – Select Committee on Enterprise and Small Business.

Will the committees have enough time to discuss these Supplementary Estimates between now and the time they must be passed, which is before the Appropriation Bill?

Yes, they will. These are Supplementary Estimates.

We should consider the fact that the Estimate for the Department of Health and Children is being referred in three minutes to a committee of the House and we have not seen its published version. This should never happen again if we are to do our work properly.

Question put and agreed to.
