Vol. 512 No. 3

Written Answers - School Accommodation.

Nora Owen

Question:

324 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will receive the architect's submission of costings for an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Dublin in order that planning permission can be sought from the local authority; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this school has given over the staff room for the purposes of a classroom; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26106/99]

My Department is aware of the accommodation difficulties in the school referred to by the Deputy.

The architectural planning process is currently progressing and every effort will be made to advance the project through the various planning stages.

Michael Ring

Question:

325 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will sanction funding to improve facilities and construct an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Mayo in view of the fact over 700 pupils are educated in cramped and crowded conditions with no language laboratory, no adequate physical education hall and insufficient properly equipped classrooms; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26107/99]

An application for additional accommodation at the school referred to by the Deputy is currently being examined within my Department. The planning section of my Department is assessing the long-term projected enrolment for the school. As soon as this data are available, the accommodation needs of the school, including PE facilities, will be thoroughly reviewed.
