Written Answers - Electricity Generation.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

56 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will clarify whether the provision for funding sustainable energy initiatives within the framework of the National Development Plan 2000-2006 amounts to £126 million and that a significant portion of this is for renewable energy; and if a breakdown of the full amount will be provided. [25831/99]

I can confirm that a provision of £146 million has been included in the national development plan for the promotion of energy efficiency and alternative energy measures in the period 2000 to 2006.

The total is targeted as follows: £29 million for the promotion of energy efficiency measures through information and education programmes; £40 million for the promotion of research and development in energy efficiency and CO2 abatement; £37 million for infrastructural investment and support for renewable and alternative sources of energy; £20 million to improve the efficiency of the pre-1980 housing stock and Government and local authority buildings and an additional £20 million to be allocated to energy related measures which will be brought forward during the period of the national development plan.
