Written Answers - Semi-State Companies.

Richard Bruton

Question:

67 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has received the report of the Government's consultant in relation to the future of Aer Rianta and the Great Southern Hotel Group; and the proposals, if any, she has in relation to the future strategy for Aer Rianta. [25941/99]

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

68 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Public Enterprise her strategic priority in relation to decisions on the future of Aer Rianta. [25942/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 67 and 68 together.

My strategic priority for the future of Aer Rianta is to ensure the provision of the necessary infrastructure and services at Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports, at the lowest possible cost consistent with safety and commercial operations.

I have not yet received the report of the advisers which were appointed jointly by myself and the Minister for Finance to assist in the examination of Aer Rianta's future strategic direction. I understand that the advisers will be submitting their report to me and to the Minister for Finance very shortly.

Following the receipt of this report and consideration of its recommendations, I will consult with my Cabinet colleagues in the normal way and then report to Government with specific recommendations in regard to the future of Aer Rianta including proposals in relation to the Great Southern Hotels Group. It would not be appropriate for me at this point to speculate on what those recommendations will be.
