Vol. 512 No. 4

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Accommodation.

Donal Carey

Question:

52 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to the condition of officer accommodation in the Air Corps; the action, if any, he is taking to improve the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26288/99]

The question of improving officers' living accommodation at Casement Aerodrome in premises known as the old wing, officers' mess, has been under consideration and a pilot work project is being carried out for evaluation in that context. The old wing consists of 40 rooms of which 11 are occupied at present. Officers' living accommodation located elsewhere at the aerodrome is considered satisfactory. In 1996 a new accommodation wing to the officers' mess containing 16 bedrooms was provided at a cost of £430,000 – all of these rooms are occupied.
