59 Mr. D'Arcy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the total aid paid to farmers in County Wexford under the arable aid schemes and all livestock schemes in each of the years 1997 and 1998; the number of farmers, by area, in County Wexford in the REP scheme; and the number of Wexford farmers on the early retirement scheme. [26333/99]

The total amount paid to farmers in County Wexford under the arable aid schemes and all livestock headage and premium schemes was £35.934 million in the calendar year 1997 and £36.930 million in 1998.

The number of farmers in County Wexford paid under the REP scheme is 1,092 covering a land area of 43,439 hectares. There are 644 Wexford farmers participating in the scheme of early retirement from farming.
