184 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the number of people who pay PAYE; the comparative figure for the number of people on self-assessment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26755/99]

I am advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the information requested by the Deputy is estimated as follows in respect of the income tax year 1999-2000:

I am advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the information requested by the Deputy is estimated as follows in respect of the income tax year 1999-2000. This refers to the total number of tax units on file including those who are exempt from tax because of low incomes.
