Vol. 512 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tax Arrears.

Liam Aylward

Question:

201 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance if he will review the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who has been assessed with arrears of income tax; and the way in which the figures were assessed in view of the fact that he is an old age pensioner. [27001/99]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer has considerable tax arrears in respect of the 1989-90 to 1994-95 tax years. The assessments for those years are based on the taxpayer's returns of income and there is, therefore, no question of reviewing the assessments.

The taxpayer's agent has contacted the inspector about the taxpayer's arrears. The inspector has indicated that it is open to the taxpayer to enter into an arrangement to pay the outstanding liability over a period of years. The inspector is awaiting the taxpayer's proposals in that regard.
