Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Enda Kenny

Question:

206 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to an article (details supplied) indicating an inadequate level of service in the diabetes facilities for patients at Mayo general hospital; if he has examined this report and its implications for patient care; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27240/99]

Bernard Allen

Question:

278 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on the recent report carried out by the Western Health Board that services for patients with diabetes in Mayo General Hospital are inadequate, could lead to a diminished quality of life for patients and contribute to the onset of preventable complications; and the plans, if any, he has to deal with this matter. [27046/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 206 and 278 together.

The provision of services at Mayo general hospital is a matter for the Western Health Board in the first instance. The board is presently developing their service plan for 2000 on the basis of funding notified to them in my Department's letter of determination. The development of services at Mayo general hospital in 2000 is under consideration by the board in this context.
