Vol. 512 No. 6

Written Answers. - Speech Therapy Service.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

248 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide additional resources for the South Eastern Health Board in order that speech and language therapy services will be extended without further delay to outreach areas such as Taghmon, Bunclody, Campile and Ferns, County Wexford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26809/99]

I have provided an additional £7 million in the year 2000, increasing to £14 million in the year 2001, for the development of services, including speech and language therapy services, for people with physical and sensory disabilities.

The £7 million has been allocated to the health boards and the South Eastern Health Board will be provided with £697,000 from this funding for the year 2000. The South Eastern Health Board will decide, in consultation with its regional co-ordinating committees for physical and sensory disabilities, on priorities for the development of services in its functional area.
