Vol. 512 No. 6

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Fitzgerald – the serious situation facing the State as a result of the withdrawal of Naval Service vessels from service due to asbestos; (2) Deputy McGennis – the need to investigate the abolition of fees for repeat students and, in particular, the case of a person (details supplied); (3) Deputy Richard Bruton – the need to extend the date for the receipt of submissions on the proposed infill of Dublin Bay by the Dublin port company; (4) Deputy Michael Moynihan – the Eircom services at Boherbue telephone exchange, Boherbue, Mallow, County Cork. There are in excess of 600 household/business users operating there at present, but only 60 lines. Consequently, there are numerous faults recorded in the area and the service is certainly substandard; (5) Deputy Ring – the change in the collection point for school children from Derradda attending Partry national school in Claremorris, County Mayo; (6) Deputy Perry – the need for capital expenditure on infrastructural works at Sligo Airport to the sum of £250,000 to ensure its survival; (7) Deputy Ellis – the development of the proposed interconnector between the ESB and Northern Ireland Electricity Board, and the effect this will have on the national power supply; (8) Deputy Durkan – the need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to intercede with the local authority to ensure that a homeless family (details supplied) in County Kildare are given accommodation as a matter of urgency; (9) Deputy Wall – the circumstances which have led to four Naval Service vessels being tied up due to the discovery of asbestos and the implications of this for coastal protection; (10) Deputy Gilmore – the urgent need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to outline the measures he intends to take to deal with the growing homelessness problem in Dublin; (11) Deputy Stanton – the collection of post-primary children attending Coláiste Eoghan and CBS secondary school in Youghal, County Cork; (12) Deputy Brendan Smith – the need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to approve the preliminary report in respect of the Stradone sewerage scheme, County Cavan, and to have the project progressed to tender stage at the earliest possible date; (13) Deputy Allen – the imminent closure of RTE Cork which has been attributed to the failure of the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands to extend the hours of broadcasting of RTE Cork and the Minister's failure to improve its signal quality and strength.

The matters raised by Deputies Fitzgerald, Wall, Brendan Smith and Ring have been selected for discussion.
