267 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the amount paid on hepatitis C compensation claims in each of the years from 1997 to 1999; and the funding, if any, provided for compensation payments in 2000. [27035/99]
The amounts paid by the hepatitis C compensation tribunal in 1997, 1998 and 1999, to Friday, 10 December, are set out below. A budget of £30 million has been set aside for tribunal awards in 2000, and a reparation fund of £6 million, based on estimates received from the tribunal of the number of cases which it expects to hear next year. This allocation will support the expected level of awards in respect of approximately 180 cases.
