Vol. 512 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

384 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposals, if any, in place to provide a primary school for the Littlepace and Castaheaney areas of Dublin 15 in view of the numbers of houses built in the area and fully occupied and the demands of parents for a primary school to be opened in the immediate future. [26764/99]

The position is as set out in my reply to Parliamentary Question Number 387 of 16 November 1999.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

385 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Education and Science the provision, if any, he has made in respect of a permanent site and building for the Dublin 15 multidenominational school project currently occupying temporary premises in Laurel Lodge community centre, Castleknock, Dublin 15. [26765/99]

It is only when a school has been granted permanent recognition that it becomes eligible to apply for capital grant-aid towards the cost of a school site and building.

The school referred to by the Deputy was granted provisional recognition with effect from September 1999. An application for permanent recognition has recently been received and is under consideration in the planning section of my Department. Before I can consider granting permanent recognition, I must be satisfied that, among other things, the school is likely to have a viable future and is complying with the Rules for National Schools.
