Vol. 512 No. 6

Written Answers. - Sugar Beet Production.

Michael Creed

Question:

155 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the prospects for new farm entrants into sugar beet production. [26850/99]

Irish Sugar plc. is the only manufacturer of sugar in this country and the sugar beet output is sold by producers on the basis of sugar beet contracts operated by the company. While the opportunities for new growers are limited, the allocation of any new contracts would be a matter for the company concerned.
