Vol. 512 No. 7

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Accidents.

David Stanton

Question:

204 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of people killed or injured on roads to date in 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27329/99]

Details in relation to all road accidents reported to the Garda authorities are supplied by the Garda to the National Roads Authority, and a report on road accidents entitled Road Accident Facts is prepared and published by that authority. The most recent report, which is in respect of 1997, was published by that authority.

I understand that the 1998 report is due to be published shortly. In the circumstances, the Deputy will appreciate that I cannot supply the details requested. I understand, however, that there is a welcome downward trend in the number of deaths on the road this year.
