Vol. 513 No. 1

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

John Gormley

Question:

356 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Finance if he has received correspondence from a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6 in relation to the health levy on old age pensions; if so, the consideration, if any, he has given to the proposals; and his position in this regard. [1411/00]

I would refer the deputy to my answer in relation to this matter, on Wednesday, 29 September, 1999. The position is as outlined in my reply of that date.

In this year's budget I announced that the threshold for the health levy will be raised from £11,250 to £11,750 per annum. The threshold ensures that most pensioners on low incomes are exempt from the levy.

While there are no proposals to abolish the levy, I can confirm that the position generally, including the level of the threshold, will continue to be reviewed as are all other taxes or levies in the context of the annual budget.
