630 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands when finance will be available to carry out restoration work at Corluddy Castle, Carrigeen, via Waterford, County Kilkenny, in view of its rapid deterioration; the plans, if any, she has to preserve this castle; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Corluddy Castle is not in State ownership or guardianship and consequently I am not in a position to provide funding for any works there. As the resources at my disposal are fully committed to the conservation and maintenance of those monuments which are in State care, the heritage service of my Department has no plans to carry out any works to Corluddy Castle.
The castle is entered in the record of monuments and places for County Kilkenny, thus affording it protection under the National Monument Acts 1930-1994. This requires the owner or occupier to give two months written notice to my Department of any proposals to carry out works at the site.
631 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands when repairs and improvements will be carried out at Grannagh Castle, Kilmacow, County Kilkenny; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1513/00]
Grannagh Castle which is in State ownership is inspected on a regular basis and is generally in good condition. Routine maintenance and minor conservation works are carried out as required. There are no plans for any major works at the site.
