Vol. 513 No. 3

Written Answers. - Football Fixtures.

Alan Shatter

Question:

292 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the plans, if any, he has to pay compensation to the Football Association of Ireland for the losses incurred by it due to the postponement of the match between the Republic of Ireland and Yugoslavia in the Euro 2000 tournament. [2278/00]

Responsibility for meeting costs incurred by the FAI arising from the Irish team's participation in the Euro 2000 Championships including the fine imposed by UEFA, is entirely a matter for the association. Irish Sports Council funding for the FAI, as with the other two major national governing bodies of sport, the GAA and the IRFU, is directed at programmes which the association implements aimed at increasing par ticipation in sport and recreation by young people in areas of economic and social disadvantage.
