Vol. 513 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

David Stanton

Question:

295 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received an appli cation from Scoil Bhríde, Mainistir na Corann, Contae Chorcaí, for sanction to appoint a teacher for the sraith gaelach in the school; his views in this regard; the action, if any, he will take on the issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2247/00]

The managerial authority of the school referred to by the Deputy submitted an application for sanction to appoint a teacher for the Sraith Gaelach in 1996. The application was considered by my Department at that time. The staffing allocation of the school fully reflected its entitlement under the staffing schedule. Accordingly, the board of management was advised by letter of 12 August 1996 that it was not possible to approve the application for additional staffing. Due to industrial action within my Department I am not in a position to confirm whether a more recent application has been received from the school.
