Vol. 513 No. 3

Written Answers. - Roman-Irish Baths.

Austin Deasy

Question:

113 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will identify the Irish connection with the Irish-Roman baths in the spa town of Baden-Baden in Germany. [2373/00]

These baths are known as the Roman-Irish baths and are regularly used as part of a therapeutic programme.

The Roman-Irish baths first opened in 1877 and the Irish connection relates to a Dr. Barter, an Irish physician, who combined the Roman approach of warm thermal baths with the Irish technique of hot air baths.
