Vol. 513 No. 6

Written Answers. - DART Service.

Nora Owen

Question:

193 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the schedule for introduction of the DART service on the Malahide line in view of the fact the original schedule indicated that service would be available at the end of 1999 and more recently that it would be available in May 2000; if the May 2000 date is still on schedule; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3047/00]

Infrastructure work on the extension of the DART to Malahide has been completed. Interim services are due to commence in June of this year.

Iarnród Éireann is currently taking delivery of ten DART car units and these will arrive by the end of February. A period of commissioning of these new units will follow. A further 16 DART car units are also on order and are due for delivery before the end of this year. Following full delivery and commissioning of these units, Iarnród Éireann will be in a position to introduce full services to Malahide early in 2001.
